Budget impasse remains as Alaska's special session lumbers along

JUNEAU -- Gov. Bill Walker is expressing frustration with the lack of progress toward a budget deal during the special session.

During a news conference from Anchorage, Walker told reporters the administration has spent a fair amount of time looking at how to prepare for a possible government shutdown if a fully funded budget is not passed.

Lawmakers remained at an impasse on the budget as six members of the House and three members of the Senate met for brief floor sessions Tuesday in Juneau to satisfy meeting requirements. With nothing to vote on, attendance wasn't mandatory.

But with the special session halfway over, Walker said he expected more.

No resolution has been reached on the other issues on the special session call, either, including Medicaid expansion.
