Friday night's prep baseball and softball roundup

SOFTBALL

West 5, Chugiak 2

Lauren Syrup struck out eight batters and gave up two hits in seven innings to lead West to a 5-2 prep softball win over Chugiak at Albrecht Fields.

Syrup didn't give up an earned run for the Eagles, who got 2-for-3 performances at the plate from Rebecca Syrup and Savannah Holland. Holland also drove in two runs.

Tori Hooper and Randi McMullen had Chugiak's two hits.

West 7, Service 5

Freshman Rebecca Syrup pitched three innings and her sister, senior Lauren, pitched the final two to lead West to a 7-5 win over Service at Albrecht Fields.

Savannah Holland's solo home run in the bottom of the third broke a 5-5 tie and proved to be the game-winner.

East 11, Bartlett 0

Daisy Page gave up one hit and struck out nine in five innings of work to lead defending state champion East to an 11-0 prep softball win over Bartlett on Friday at Bartlett.

East's Sierra Rosenzweig went 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run and 2 RBIs and Morgan Hill was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and a triple.

BASEBALL

Wasilla 9, East 2

Wasilla got two-run doubles from Blake Marks and Nolan Monaghan to key the Warriors' 9-2 nonconference high school baseball win over East on Friday at Kosinski Fields.

Wasilla got an unearned run in the second inning and picked up three more in the third to go up 4-0.

East cut the lead to 4-1 on an RBI single by Carl Gatter in the bottom of the inning, but the Warriors tacked on three runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth.

East's Gaten Davis had an RBI fielder's choice to cap the scoring.
