Anchorage police release sketch of Mosquito Lake rape suspect

Anchorage police have released a sketch of a suspect in an April 8 sexual assault in the woods near Mosquito Lake. They hope someone from the public may have more information about the case.

A composite sketch of the man was created based on information provided by the victim, a release from the Anchorage Police Department said.

Just after 11 p.m. April 8, a woman flagged down an officer at the University of Alaska Anchorage to report that she'd been sexually assaulted near the lake, police said.

"According to the victim, she had met the suspect in the downtown area and spent most of the day with him; she was going to spend the night at his house," police said.

They were walking through the woods when the man pushed the woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her, police said. The man then reportedly fled the area.

The university police department called APD immediately after the sex assault was reported. A canine unit searched the area but no one was found, police said.

Police described the suspect as a white male in his 20s, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a stocky build, dark hair and freckles.

Anyone with information is asked to call APD Special Victims Unit detective Andy Cottle at 907-786-2431, or to anonymously submit a tip to Anchorage Crime Stoppers call 907-561-STOP or visit their website.
