An early morning car crash and ensuing fire just outside of Fairbanks left one person dead Monday, according to Alaska State Troopers.
In an online dispatch, troopers wrote they received a report from a motorist of a car wreck at mile 352 of the Parks Highway, and that the car was "engulfed in flames" just after 6 a.m.
Alaska State Troopers and firefighters from the Ester Fire Department extinguished the fire, but discovered the driver "deceased in (the) passenger compartment" of the Buick Century, troopers wrote.
Investigation revealed the driver had not been wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.
Troopers said the car had been heading northbound on the Parks Highway when the driver apparently lost control and went off the roadway. The vehicle went down an embankment and ultimately came to a rest upright. Investigation revealed the driver had not been wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.
It isn't yet known how the fire started.
The body will go to the State Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy and for identification.
