Troopers say one person died and five others were injured Thursday evening in a crash on the northbound Glenn Highway just beyond the Knik River bridge.
The wreck was reported at 6:02 p.m., said troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters in an email.
Trenton Shepersky, 22, of Wasilla was driving southbound in a Chevrolet pickup when the truck crossed the median into northbound traffic. It crashed head-on into an RV and then hit a Chevrolet van, said a troopers dispatch posted online Friday.
A woman in the RV was declared dead on the scene. Troopers are withholding her identity pending notification of her next of kin, the dispatch said.
The driver of the RV, Alex Violet, a 27-year-old French citizen, was taken to Alaska Regional Hospital, treated and released. A passenger, Beryl Vigneri, 30, of British Columbia, was also treated at the Anchorage hospital and released, according to the dispatch.
Another passenger in the RV, Misa Shimiza, a 25-year-old Japanese citizen, was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment, the dispatch said.
The driver of the van, Jeremy Doty, 43, of Palmer, was also taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. He had minor injuries, the dispatch said.
Shepersky was flown to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, the dispatch said.
The crash briefly closed both northbound lanes of the Glenn Highway Thursday.
The crash totaled the pickup. The RV and van were heavily damaged, according to the dispatch.
