Weather service warns of high winds, snow in Southeast Alaska

Downtown Juneau could be battered by winds as high as 90 mph, according to a special weather statement released late Wednesday night by the National Weather Service.

The statement warns of winter weather across a broad swath of Southeast Alaska.

"Cold temperatures and strong winds will create near blizzard conditions along the Klondike Highway," the release warned, while Juneau and Douglas could experience "very gusty outflow winds."

The statement also warned of "significant snowfall" across wide portions of the region.

Separate special weather statements issued earlier Wednesday warned of windy conditions and windchill in Southcentral Alaska and a stretch of cold temperatures in Interior Alaska.
