Lady Lynx Shootout: Dimond, Colony, Wasilla, West Valley advance

Host Dimond, Colony and Wasilla of the Valley and West Valley of Fairbanks all won their gold-bracket openers Thursday to advance to Friday's semifinals in the Lady Lynx Shootout basketball tournament.

Dimond's Rohyn Huss dropped a game-high 22 points to push the Lynx past Lathrop, 68-58. Jahnna Hadjukovich paced the Wolfpack with 18 points.

Colony advanced with a 57-53 overtime win against Ketchikan. Faith Harris went off for 29 points for the Knights and Eliah Anderson led Ketchikan with 17 points.

Wasilla's Leya Depriest scored 15 points to spark a 43-39 win over Chugiak, which got 13 points from Ashlynn Burgess.

And West Valley held off Thunder Mountain, 43-41.

Teams advanced to the gold bracket of the 16-team tournament by winning their overall tournament openers Wednesday at Dimond. Teams that lost Wednesday moved into the maroon bracket.

In maroon action, Palmer beat Bartlett, 58-33; Kenai topped Juneau, 44-35; West edged Point Hope 52-48; South beat Soldotna, 51-37.

Among the high scorers in those games were South's Sabrina Ungaro (22 points), Kenai's Abby Beck (16), West's Marshala Eady (15) and Bartlett's Sudana Moyoung (15).
