FAIRBANKS -- Veterinarians in Fairbanks and Canada have given their final health clearance to dogs participating in the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.
The 1,000-mile race is set to begin Saturday in Whitehorse in Canada's Yukon Territory.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the pre-race vet checks took place Saturday.
Dozens of sled dogs were given checkups at a south Fairbanks warehouse, while a similar scene was taking place in Whitehorse.
Twenty-six mushers, including four past Yukon Quest champions, are signed up for this year's race.
