Winter weather is expected to continue across Southcentral Alaska Friday evening and into Saturday, with additional snowfall accumulations of 2 to 11 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
On Friday, the Talkeetna area had the highest totals, with between 8 and 12 inches of fresh snow, according to Bill Ludwig, lead forecaster with the National Weather Service. Areas of Anchorage saw between 1 and 4 inches of snow by 5 p.m., he said.
While less snow fell in some parts of Southcentral Alaska than originally forecast, he said, "we're still expecting snow tonight into tomorrow morning."
Winter weather advisories remain in effect overnight Friday for Anchorage, the Matanuska Valley, the Susitna Valley and the western Kenai Peninsula. In parts of the Interior, the weather service issued winter storm warnings, calling for heavy snow through Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, the Susitna Valley could see an additional 2 to 5 inches of snow through Saturday morning, while 4 to 9 inches of snow may fall in Anchorage, according to the weather service. Forecasters called for an additional 3 to 6 inches in the Matanuska Valley overnight with 2 to 5 inches accumulating Saturday. Between 2 and 5 inches of snow may fall overnight in parts of the Kenai Peninsula, according to the weather service.
