A 7-month-old pit bull underwent surgery Saturday after it was found suffering from multiple gun shot wounds in Midtown Anchorage.
A good Samaritan found the pit bull at the intersection of Jewel Lake Road and International Airport Road at roughly 8 a.m. Saturday morning, Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Anita Shell said.
The dog had been shot at least three times. Two gunshot wounds to the dog's front legs left them "shattered," Shell said. A third gunshot wound went through his chest and exited through the dog's side.
The good Samaritan took the dog to a veterinarian hospital. The pit bull underwent surgery on Saturday and was in stable condition following the procedure, Shell said.
The pit bull didn't have a microchip or any identifying information, however, "he does not appear to be a wild dog … he's somebody's," Shell said. She described the pit bull as a brown 7-month-old puppy.
The Anchorage Police Department did not have any suspect information on Monday morning. Anyone with information was asked to call APD at 786-8900, submit a tip anonymously at Anchorage Crime Stoppers online or call 561-7807.
