The top two divers in the Cook Inlet Conference were true to form on Thursday, leading the field during the preliminary round of diving on the opening day of the CIC swimming and diving championships at Bartlett.
Dimond diver Austin Desatoff, who entered the meet ranked second in Alaska behind Lathrop's Zach Campbell, had a 212.9 on Thursday to better Chugiak's Shawn Fugere by 17.7 points. South's Connor Knutson was third with 190.95 points.
Eagle River's Jami Stone, who posted a state-best 283.9 this season, had a 199.3 on Thursday to lead the girls' competition. South's Sierra Panting (172.25) was second and West's Kendall Wagner (145.7) finished third.
All divers in Thursday's preliminary round advanced to Saturday's semifinal round.
Swimming events get underway on Friday, with preliminary events beginning at 3 p.m. at Bartlett.
