Anchorage police have identified a man found on dead on a sidewalk near Valley of the Moon park over the weekend at Carl Oxereok, 39.
A Guardian Security driver driving through the area called police after finding Oxereok's body near the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and 20th Avenue at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, said Anchorage Police Department spokesman Lt. Dave Parker.
The security guard, identified by police as Randy Simmons, tried doing CPR on the man.
Parker said it's unclear how long Oxereok's body had been in the road before the security guard discovered it, but the guard told police he was still warm.
The temperature was about 3 degrees in Anchorage early Sunday, according to National Weather Service records.
The death was initially investigated as suspicious because Oxereok, a Mountain View resident, had an obvious injury to his head, he said.
"We don't know if it was from falling or someone doing something bad or a car," Parker said.
But investigators say they have found no evidence of foul play so far.
Parker said Wednesday the man was found on the sidewalk rather than in the road, as police had originally indicated.
An autopsy to determine cause of death is still being conducted. Toxicology tests could take weeks.
