Human remains were found in a residence destroyed by fire early Monday in the Southwest Alaska village of Pilot Point, according to troopers.
A village public safety officer alerted troopers to the fire around 1:30 a.m. and said there may have been a person inside, according to an online statement from troopers.
The residence was a total loss and investigators have tentatively identified the deceased, but troopers said the remains will be positively identified by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage.
It’s unclear what caused the fire, but troopers said foul play is not suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
