Driver dies in collision on icy Parks Highway near Talkeetna

Update Monday, Dec. 2: Alaska State Troopers have identified the driver who died as 72-year-old Richard Krause of Willow.

Original story:

A driver died Sunday night on the Parks Highway near Talkeetna when a car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, troopers said in an online alert.

A sedan was southbound “in the wrong lane,” Alaska State Troopers said, when it hit the truck around 8 p.m. at Mile 95.

The Parks Highway was icy in the area and there had been heavy snowfall, according to the alert.

Troopers did not immediately say whether it was believed the driver had lost control of the car.

The truck driver was not hurt, but the car driver died at the scene. Troopers did not release either driver’s name Monday morning.

The investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
