Missing teen found dead in North Pole

A 17-year-old boy reported missing over the weekend was found dead Wednesday in North Pole, Alaska State Troopers said.

Talen Luth-Ney was reported missing by a friend just before 6 a.m. Sunday, troopers said. He had been at a party with other juveniles and ran into the woods when someone mentioned that police were coming, the friend told troopers.

Luth-Ney was missing for about five hours before his friend made the report, troopers said.

Troopers said they searched by ground and with a helicopter. Volunteers, including a K9 search team, also participated, they said.

A volunteer dog team found Luth-Ney’s body in a small pond in a gravel pit on Wednesday evening, according to troopers. His body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, they said.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation Fairbanks Major Crimes Unit is looking into the circumstances surrounding Luth-Ney’s death, troopers said.
