A man died in a single-vehicle crash near Fairbanks Monday evening, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers said in a dispatch that 27-year-old Fairbanks resident Andrew Stodden was killed when his vehicle rolled over in a crash at Goldstream Road and Murphy Dome Road.
Stodden was the vehicle's only occupant.
Investigating trooper Christine Joslin said in an email Tuesday evening that Stodden's Chevrolet S-10 had been headed south on Goldstream when it drifted to the right on a curve to the left in the road.
"Stodden lost control of the vehicle while attempting to correct for the turn and rolled the truck off the right shoulder of the road," Joslin wrote. "Stodden did not appear to be wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle."
One person witnessed the wreck and was interviewed by troopers, Joslin said.
"He said he observed Stodden swerve unexpectedly but did not see any other vehicles or animals on the road to suggest why he swerved," Joslin wrote. "The witness did not think Stodden was traveling excessively fast."
Stodden was declared dead by medics at the scene just after 10 p.m. Monday, Joslin said. His next of kin have been notified of his death, and his body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
Troopers closed one lane of Goldstream Road for about four and a half hours to investigate the crash.
