Fairbanks police arrest suspect in stabbing death

Fairbanks police arrested a man Friday suspected of stabbing another man to death earlier this week.

Greg Troy Beasley, 27, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Police spokeswoman Yumi McCulloch wrote in a statement that Beasley was taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center, where he is being held on a no-bail warrant.

The alleged stabbing happened the night of Sept. 10. Officers responded to a call about a person "bleeding out" at a home off 17th Avenue and found Guy Mitchell Yazzie with multiple stab wounds. Yazzie, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Fairbanks detectives identified Beasley as the primary suspect and asked for help locating him.

"Beasley was reported to be camping in the Fairbanks area," McCulloch wrote Friday. "Officers began searching areas that are historically known to have transient camps."

That's where he was found — in a camp near Airport Way and the Steese Highway, according to McCulloch.

Court records do not yet show a scheduled court appearance for Beasley.
