One person died early Thursday in a fire at an East Anchorage mobile home park, Anchorage fire officials say.
A neighbor in the Glencaren Court mobile home park on Muldoon Road called 911 just after 4:30 a.m. to report the fire and say there might be people still inside, Anchorage Fire Department assistant chief Alex Boyd said.
The first responders to arrive found about half the home was on fire, with heavy smoke throughout, the fire department said in a statement. “Aggressive fire suppression operations and immediate search for the victim located one occupant in the home who was deceased,” the department said.
Investigators were still trying to establish the origin and cause of the fire Thursday afternoon, Boyd said. Fifteen AFD units responded.
It’s not yet clear if there were other people in the home at the time of the fire, he said.
Fire officials reminded the public to make sure smoke alarms are in good working order and that residents and family members are updated on home escape plans.
