A woman died late Sunday when her out-of-control SUV "launched" off the Tudor Road overpass and crashed onto the Seward Highway, Anchorage police said.
Police responded to reports of the crash at about 8:13 p.m. Witnesses said a speeding SUV westbound on Tudor Road was unable to make the turn onto the northbound on-ramp to the highway.
"The vehicle launched over the north side of the overpass, hit multiple guardrails and landed upside in the far right-hand lane of the southbound lanes of the Seward Highway," according to a police dispatch.
The driver was the only person in the car. She was declared dead at the scene, police said.
All southbound lanes of the Seward Highway were shut down at Tudor for hours but were reopened about 2 a.m.
