The outbound lanes of the Glenn Highway near Turpin Street were closed for several hours Tuesday due to a fatal crash that killed a lone driver and sent others to the hospital, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
Police responded to the four-vehicle collision on the Glenn around noon Tuesday, APD said in a release.
"Initial indications are that a Subaru, solely occupied by an adult male, was traveling inbound on the Glenn Highway when it crossed the center median and collided with outbound traffic," the release says.
The Subaru's driver was declared dead at the scene; "several other people" from the involved vehicles were taken to local hospitals, police said. APD said it does not know the exact number of injured commuters, or the extent of their injuries.
All outbound lanes of the Glenn were closed and traffic was being diverted onto Turpin until a single lane reopened around 3 p.m. Police opened all lanes about an hour and a half later.
