Wasilla man dies in rafting accident on Montana Creek

A Wasilla man died Thursday afternoon while rafting near Talkeetna, according to Alaska State Troopers.

In a brief dispatch late Thursday, troopers said they responded at about 1:45 p.m. to a report that 44-year-old Lawrence Christopherson's raft had been found overturned and "hung up on a logjam" on Montana Creek.

Christopherson was pinned against the logjam underwater, said troopers spokesperson Megan Peters.

"Investigation found that (Christopherson) died from an apparent rafting accident," troopers wrote.

Peters said it appears Christopherson was alone when the accident happened.

Troopers have notified both Christopherson's next of kin and the State Medical Examiner's Office.
